The concept is ready made. The system and the material are there. The support staff at the office work full time helping everyone out in the field, and their customers, with every question that isn't a training matter. A lot of people are attracted by the idea that everything is already in place. Recently I was asked whether everyone should work in direct selling…
There are different types of people. If you don't need to be a pioneer, to come up with and do everything yourself, but you can imagine outsourcing certain things and concentrating on the core business (meetings, meetings, meetings), then direct selling can suit you perfectly as an entrepreneur. The only real difference from being a franchisee is that you don't pay any direct licence fee, and in modern direct selling companies you don't tie up any capital either, since you don't build stock, the company ships the products straight to the customer.
You have a whole staff of mentors who have a financial interest in things going well for you. You can see them as free consultants who will teach you, coach you and guide you to where you want to be in terms of results. There are always limitations in the structure that mean the person who does the most is the one who earns the most, which means it isn't about being first, something a few people seem to have got into their heads.
Natural leaders who are happy to be part of an existing organisation are usually called intrapreneurs. A good definition can be found at Ekolek – Svenskt Ekonomilexikon
A person who can be likened to an entrepreneur, that is, an enterprising and innovative person. Unlike an entrepreneur, the intrapreneur operates within an organisation, often a larger company, instead of running their own business.
It doesn't matter how good something is. We've all met people with no ambition. If good people have started a good company with a good system, then the conditions are really there. There should of course be good products, the chance of good compensation and good leaders who can help out (feel free to swap "good" for whatever superlative you prefer). Now it comes down to you. What do you want?
I don't think everyone who buys a guitar is aiming to become a rock star. I don't think everyone who buys a golf bag full of clubs has the ambition to turn pro either. Not everyone is aiming for the top. There are so many people who just want to earn a few extra thousand while meeting positive people, going to talks and learning new things.
Not everyone should work in direct selling, but the thing is that anyone with the right attitude to learning can do it. It doesn't matter what's on your CV or what's on your credit record. If the will is there, direct selling is a fantastic way to run a business.
