There are people who sit and write things online to provoke and start pointless discussions. They like using strong words to get attention and they often have a hidden agenda. Since you rarely know who's behind the keyboard, I tend to see them as little kids who like running into the neighbour's garden to steal apples.
Don't pour petrol on the fire. Let it go. The more attention they get, the more power they get. There's nothing those kids want more than for the neighbours to get angry and chase them.
So called internet trolls aren't just provocative. Wikipedia also describes them as odd, irrelevant and unserious. They also write that ”the behaviour and methods of trolls can for example be pretending to hold extreme opinions of various kinds, using clearly illogical arguments and/or unpleasant discussion techniques, such as domination techniques”.
The more afraid we are of the trolls in the cave, and the more we feed them, the bigger they grow. You get it. There are no monsters under the bed.
What you need to understand is that they often make money, directly or indirectly, from sitting and writing negative things about brands or people. It can be a competitor, or someone hired by a competitor, trying to grab market share by scaring customers away from your company. There are actually even skilled strategists who write negative things about subjects that are easy to smear, just so they can climb on Google. It's about getting more visitors who can find their page and see what they're actually selling, all to drive internet traffic.
It can also be someone who has far too much time on their hands and likes creating drama. If they have nothing better to do with their days, they're obviously not a particularly credible source.
It doesn't always have to be someone anonymous. It can also be someone close to you who thinks things are going a bit too well for you. When you decide to go for something you haven't done before, there will always be people around you who are negative about what you believe in or what you want to do. Usually when they come after you, it's really about them feeling bad about something they haven't done themselves.
If you choose to get upset about something, it only means someone has managed to make you lose your grip. They've taken away your ability and capacity to produce value for the world. There's no excuse for that. Go out into the world and inspire change.
Remember, if you do this professionally and go all in, you will get pushback. If you don't, you're either extremely authoritarian within your circle of friends or you're not playing high enough. You won't make everyone happy. If you try to, you'll lose.
My mentor said to me a while back: ”If at least 10% of the people who know of you don't dislike or hate what you do, you're not standing out enough.” Surround yourself with people you like. Not everyone is meant to be on your journey. Be grateful that you don't end up with the wrong travelling companions.
The general public is still fairly uneducated on the subject of direct selling, so it's quite rewarding for a troll to keep stirring things up about it. A lack of education or knowledge about this profession means people don't see or understand the difference between what's written by a troll and what's true.
”There was a time when most people believed that what the majority chose to believe was close to the truth. There was also a time when the majority believed the earth was flat. The majority suffers from ignorance. It's about not having been given access to the methods of evaluation that are essential for making a decision on the right grounds.” -Jacque Fresco – A modern-day Da Vinci
You see, if they'd rather listen to an anonymous source on an internet forum than listen to you, then honestly I don't think they should be on your journey. We all make our choices in life, we grow and we choose who we listen to.
The real question is why the masses have brainwashed us into believing that anything outside an ordinary job must be illegal. Do you want to know why the media CONSTANTLY talks about negative things? Because that's what gets the attention of the masses.
The masses have been programmed to find the negative in everything that could be positive. It's rather well thought out by the forces that have a financial interest in keeping us where we are, but that's a whole other blog post.
